Will to Power

All life is the will to grow, expand, dominate, become more.

Nietzsche's name for the basic drive of all living things. Darwin's will-to-survive and Schopenhauer's will-to-live both seemed too tame to him: what lives wants more – to assert and to overcome, to grow and to expand. The concept is ambiguous in his writings: it has been read as metaphysics and as psychology – and sometimes as an ideal for a whole culture.
